Nuestra

Energía

Mundo Sostenible (MSc) promotes clean energy as a means of empowerment against economic challenges and hardships. We partner with members of underserved communities such as orphanages, schools, and community shelters across southern Peru who wish to participate in environmentally-friendly projects, but cannot afford the upfront costs. With MSc’s help, the adoption of clean energy resources by these communities translates into greater social and economic sovereignty, stability, and growth.

MSc accomplishes our environmental goals by providing each community project with quality equipment, project management expertise, and geographically-based solutions. Our cost-saving and low-maintenance clean energy systems enhance the quality of life for these communities. Not only are these systems a reliable and stable energy source for electricity, but they also create the opportunity for these communities to reallocate funds for other necessities. MSc’s ultimate vision is to provide industry-leading clean energy financing and consulting services throughout Latin America to foster economic growth in an environmentally and socially sustainable way, and Nuestra Energía is just the first and most important step!

Hogar Belen

Hogar Belen is an orphanage and care facility located in sunny Moqeugua in southern Peru. MSc was so excited to work with Madre Fabiola to bring this project to life! This beautiful setting is home to 24 boys and girls who attend local schools and enjoy helping with the attached farmette. Additionally, the facility hosts a number of young adults with disabilities who occasionally help with daily chores.

After a fundraising push, MSc went to work in September of 2023 with the installation of a 4kW battery solar PV system at the home. With the anticipated savings, Madre Fabiola hopes to bring on an additional full-time nurse to improve care for the disabled residents of the home and potentially carry out some needed maintenance on buildings at the facility.

Pukllasunchis - Phase I

This combined primary and secondary school, occupying a small, peaceful canyon on the northeast end of the city of Cusco, has combined efforts with MSc to create a truly transformative solar energy project. This first of three phases will eventually see the installation of a more than 18kW array, effectuating the substantial and ambitious objective of improving environmental quality and providing a setting for practical lessons to students about ways they and their school can make an impact.

This project, MSc’s largest to-date, has also provided valuable data to our organization about how to structure our programs beyond Nuestra Energía. Thanks to the team’s incredible efforts in designing and implementing this project, we’re proud to announce the launch of our next program at an event in Arequipa on July 15th, 2023. Stay tuned for more details!

Zona Zegura

Among the mission and objectives at Zona Zegura are the care of young families and the preparation of teen-age kids for their careers. This shelter and boarding school offers safe refuge and specialized hospitality training to around 35 individuals just outside Izcuchaca, Cusco, Peru, about an hour west of the city of Cusco.

This 4.6kW system will provide significant savings to the facility to improve their existing hospitality training curriculum, as well as to build a small clinic to provide healthcare services to residents and the surrounding community. The facility director, Cesar, would also like to eventually add a secondary school to their peaceful, mountaintop setting and connect it with the environmental mission of Zona Zegura and the solar energy they now proudly harness.

Nueva Esperanza

New Hope Peru is a shelter for boys and girls located in Arequipa, Peru. Administrators at this facility wanted us to know how important is was to their mission to see a future Peru without the need for their services. From the organization’s donation page: “New Hope Peru serves orphaned and vulnerable children in Arequipa, Peru, with a focus on supporting and developing family-based care solutions.”

In January of 2023, MSc completed the installation of a 5.94kW Grid-Tied solar energy system. The largest system to date for Nuestra Energía, we’re hopeful for a significant impact on the program’s greenhouse gas reduction potential. As of August of 2023, this project alone has accounted for more than 350kg of GHG emissions reductions!

San Mateo

A sister facility to Nuestra Energía’s very first project at El Amor de Dios, San Mateo has now joined the family. This orphanage for boys located in Arequipa, Peru, also provides food assistance to elderly members of the local community through food drives and baskets every week.

This 1.98kW hybrid battery solar energy system will provide much needed energy security to the facility. Jose, the facility director, has talked about the challenges of frequent power cuts at San Mateo and we’re confident we’ve provided an effective solution. As of August of 2023, San Mateo is currently the organization’s most efficiently operated system, providing more than 85% energy savings!

Madre Teresa de Calcuta

Madre Teresa is a facility dedicated to children and adults with severe disabilities, as well as senior citizens without family or resources to turn to for support. Located in the city of Cusco, the Sisters and their team of volunteers from near and far have made a comfortable home for their roughly 70 residents.

Completed in May of 2022, the 2.64kW grid-tied solar PV system is well positioned to offset a sizeable portion of the facility's energy costs, allowing them to redirect resources to care for the residents of the home. In some cases, specialists are brought in to assist with special education programs, and even to provide needed medical procedures for residents.

Eco-Escuela Simataucca

Eco-Escuela Simataucca, the incredible creation of its dedicated and talented director, Patricia Galvan Valencia. Situated in the quiet community of Simataucca just south of Chinchero near the Sacred Valley north of the city of Cusco, Peru, this primary school focuses on environmentalism as a vehicle for wholistic education.

In addition to a fully-functional greenhouse, robust recycling and upcycling activities, and recently constructed classrooms and other facilities, Patricia and Simataucca were ready to take the next step in their mission to provide education to the community in a way that was sustainable, both economically and environmentally.

Completed in April of 2022, this 5.28kW grid-tied solar PV system is expected to provide significant savings to the school to the tune of more than $1,500 per year, a truly substantial amount in this rural community. Along with recent construction, the school also won several grants that allowed them to bring in new computers for a learning lab, as well as to install interactive projectors into several classrooms, all of which would have significantly increased their electricity bills. This system will provide more than enough savings for the administrators to allocate to other necessities and projects at the school.

This project was made possible through our program, Nuestra Energía, and thanks to the generosity of donors to our organization between June of 2021 and March of 2022. See below for more information about Nuestra Energía and our other projects!
